College Ready

 

The College Ready program serves high school students from 9th through 11th grades. College Ready emphasizes bringing academic performance to college-ready levels, as well as college exposure and visioning. Scholars participate in academic enrichment workshops and develop essential skills including effective study habits, good time management and strong self-advocacy. Service learning and experiential trips provide opportunities for leadership development. College counseling assists scholars in making informed college choices based on the best social, financial and academic fit. The program ensures that scholars enter college with the skills necessary to persist to graduation.

Other components of the College Ready program include:
  • Weekly 1:1 meetings with staff
  • Year-round, school-based academic support and tutoring in English, reading, writing, math, science, ACT Test Prep
  • Fall and spring college campus visits for sophomores and juniors
  • Summer immersion programs on college campuses for sophomores and juniors
  • Community service projects
  • Cultural trips in and around Chicago
Families of College Ready scholars also receive the following support:
  • Annual workshops on topics which include preparing for college, application process, saving for college, scholarships and financial aid, summer immersion programs
  • Conferences with staff twice a year to discuss scholar progress
  • College selection meeting with PWFC staff
